I don't really know why I chose "maybe." Maybe it's because I think we should think about things we can't see, things we can't know.
What do you care about when you go shopping for clothes? You care about the design and price, but you probably don't care about the country of origin or the producer. That's because there is almost nothing written on the tag, and even if you get information, there is no way to verify whether it is true.
Fast fashion is closely related to two issues: human rights and environmental issues. This time, I tried to focus on the theme of environmental issues when clothes are produced.
First of all, depending on the material, a large amount of CO2 is emitted in many aspects of clothing production, such as material production and procurement, transportation, and manufacturing. According to documents from the Ministry of the Environment, it is said that the amount of CO2 emitted to make one piece of clothing is enough to make 255 PET bottles on average (2019). And the most problematic issue is water. In addition to the large amount of water required to make clothes, there are many cases where harmful substances are contained in the dyes. Moreover, there are cases where this is discharged into local rivers as factory wastewater.
As consumers change, companies will need to change too.
